More About Converting YouTube.com Text Transcription into Chapters
YouTube's text transcription service turns your YouTube video into a text document. This is absolutely awesome, as it provides you with an instant copy and paste resource that you can use to post more content on the subject of what your YouTube video is about, either within your YouTube videos description, or other free website builders online.
The only problem with the text transcript that is produced by YouTube.com, is that it is sort of sloppy and chaotic, meaning that the timestamps included with the text transcript are fairly random and my personal opinion is that the timestamps occur much too frequently to really be useful or meaningful.
This free tool takes your YouTube text transcript and cleans it up so that the frequency of YouTube text transcript time stamps are more organized, and less frequent and more evenly spaced.
You may not know this, but by making the time stamps at least 10 seconds or more apart, your YouTube video is automatically broken up into chapters which I believe, helps a bit when it comes to search engine optimization and getting more eyeballs to your YouTube video. Certainly makes it easier for people to skip around to specific parts of your video.
How to Get YouTube Text Transcript
All YouTube videos have a text transcription automatically created with the assumption that your YouTube video has spoken words in it. If your YouTube video does not have someone speaking in it then obviously there will be no text transcription for that video.
- Go to the YouTube page that has the video for which you wish to get the text transcript.
- Just below the video look for the 3 dots ellipse
⋯
which represents the menu item for more options for that video. This will be right next to the menu items SAVE
and SHARE
. - Click on this 3 dots ellipse to make a pop up menu appear.
- Click the menu item
Open Transcript
. If you don't see this menu item then it means ...- Your video has no spoken word in it.
- The spoken word is too difficult to understand so YouTube can't create a text transcript out of it.
- The video was uploaded to recently and YouTube has not yet created the text transcript for the video.
- After clicking this menu item, the text transcription will open up. It will either be below the video or to the right of the video depending upon the size of the screen of the device you are using.
- If the video is playing, press the pause button to stop the playing of the video.
- Make sure that the transcription's timestamps are showing. If they are not, click the 3 vertical dots
⋮
which will reveal a menu so you can click Toggle Timestamps
to make the video transcriptions timestamps visible. - Scroll down to the bottom of the text transcript.
- With your mouse, select the end of the transcript and select the entire YouTube transcript with your mouse.
- Press CTRL+C (windows) Command(⌘) (mac) to copy the entire transcription to your computers clipboard.
