AntiVirus/Security Software False Flagging Safe Files as Malicious
Almost all antivirus/security software programs mistakenly flag a perfectly fine software program or file as containing malicious code when it does not. This is almost impossible to avoid. When this occurs, you can follow the instructions below on how to white list the software program in your computers antivirus/security software.
If your antivirus tells you a program contains bad code and you want to make sure or double check...
- Go to to the VirusTotal website.
- Click the button to upload the suspected file or program. (you can also enter a url/web address so you don't even have to risk downloading the file.)
- Let the website scan the file using dozens of built in anti-virus programs.
If the majority of results come back that the file is fine, you can probably trust it. Follow the instructions below to tell your security software that the file is ok so the software does not continuously delete the software or file or prevent it from running properly. If more than about 15% of the virus scanners report it as a bad file, you might want to delete the file and/or not open/download it.
